There’s a place for you here.

This is the door into Mama’s Escape, the community for Black mothers who are ready to stop doing it all alone.

A glimpse of what waits inside Mentor mums who have walked a few steps ahead. Sessions with people who get it. Resources that make the systems easier to face. A room of women who are living it too, who will look at you and say, me too. Enough to know this was built for you.

Not Mum. Not wife. You.

We speak with you. We speak for you. We are you.

For Black mothers in the UK, the gap is not only lonely. We are around three times more likely to die in and around pregnancy than white women, and too often our concerns go unheard. We were also raised, in our own cultures, not to talk about the struggle. Mama’s Escape exists to change both. To be understood without having to explain. To break the silence, together

// About Us

A mother deserves to be looked after too.

Mum and two kids

Before we were mothers, we were women full of ideas, dreams, and plans. Then motherhood arrived, often far from home, far from the village that would have held us. Everyone gathered round the baby. Few asked how we were. So we learned to appear okay while running on empty. And it cost us, in our bodies and in our minds.
